NATIONAL NEWBORN WEEK CELEBRATIONS
National Newborn Week was celebrated by Child Health Nursing Department of M.M College of Nursing, Mullana, Ambala from 15th November 2016 to 21st November 2016 on the theme “Leadership for Improvement and Innovation in Neonatal Care”.
Spanning over full week activities, events were planned and organized as follows:
Notice Board Display was done by the M.Sc Nursing 1st year students (Child Health Nursing Department) on Essential Components of Newborn Care, marking the beginning of Newborn week on 15th November 2016.
Professor Sunit C Singhi, HOD, Department of Pediatrics, MMIMS&R, was the Chief-Guest for the Inaugural Ceremony on 16th November 2016.He disclosed the theme for the Newborn Week celebration and expressed his concern over India being the highest contributor to neonatal mortality further highlighted that nurses are the backbone of every neonatal care enterprise.
Expert Talk on “Quality in Neonatal Care” was given by Dr. Baljeet Maini, Professor, Department of Pediatrics, MMIMS&R. He expressed that compassionate nursing care is the very base of nursing care for the newborns.
Various other activities such as Poster Competition on “Immediate Care of Newborn”, Speech Competition on “Human Milk Banking” & “Breastfeeding Counseling”, Quiz Competition on “Neonatal Disorders”, Panel Discussion on “Improvement in Neonatal Care” were carried out by the department. Health Education Programme for Postnatal Mothers (Role play and health talk) on “Home Based Newborn Care and Identification of Danger Signs in Newborns” was organized in MMIMS&R Hospital.
On 21st November 2016, One-day Workshop for Staff Nurses on “Facility Based Newborn Care” was organized by the faculty members of Child Health Nursing Department. With this Newborn week was then declared closed with a vote of Thanks.
